Modular Kitchen Cost in Varanasi: Complete Price Breakdown (2026)

Ask three interior firms in Varanasi what a modular kitchen costs and you will get three answers, none of which include the same things. One quotes the carcass and shutters. One quotes everything except the chimney and hob. One quotes a low per-foot rate and adds the hardware separately at the end.
This page is our attempt to end that. Below is what a modular kitchen actually costs in Varanasi in 2026, what sits inside each price band, and where the quote quietly inflates.
The short answer
For a standard 10ft x 10ft kitchen, the realistic ranges in Varanasi today:

Rates are per square foot of cabinet area — the carcass plus shutters, measured on the elevation. Appliances, countertop and backsplash sit outside this and are covered further down.

What separates the three bands
The gap between a ₹1.4 lakh kitchen and a ₹4 lakh kitchen is not decoration. It is four specific decisions.
1. The board (30–40% of the difference)
This is the single biggest lever, and it is the one homeowners understand least.
Economy builds use commercial or MR-grade plywood — moisture resistant in name, but not built for a kitchen floor that gets mopped daily or a sink base that sees splashes for fifteen years.
Mid-range uses BWR or 710-grade BWP plywood. This is the sensible default for Varanasi. Our summers push humidity past 80% for weeks at a stretch, and BWP ply handles that without the carcass swelling at the base.
Premium uses HDHMR or marine-grade ply, often with an anti-termite treatment. HDHMR takes membrane and acrylic finishes better than plywood does, which is why it shows up in high-gloss kitchens.
A practical note from the timber side of our business: the grade stamped on a board and the grade of the board are not always the same thing. Ask for the mill name and the IS certification, not just the word "710".
2. The finish (20–30%)

Laminate carries an unfair reputation for being the cheap option. A good 1mm laminate on a BWP carcass will outlast an acrylic finish on a bad board every single time. If the budget is tight, spend it on the board, not the shine.
3. The hardware (15–25%)
Hinges, channels and lift-up mechanisms are where quotes are most often thinned out to look competitive.
- Local / unbranded: baseline, and the source of nearly every "my drawer stopped closing" complaint in year two
- Ebco, Hafele entry: +₹15,000 – ₹30,000 on a 10x10 kitchen
- Hettich, Blum: +₹40,000 – ₹80,000
Soft-close on every drawer is the upgrade people notice daily for a decade. If you cut anywhere, cut somewhere else.
4. Internal accessories
Tall units, corner carousels, pull-out pantries, cutlery organisers, bottle pull-outs. Each of these is priced individually and each is genuinely optional. A full accessory package can add ₹60,000 to ₹1.5 lakh on its own, and this is where a quote goes from reasonable to alarming without anything visible changing.
What sits outside the per-sq-ft rate
Almost every Varanasi quote excludes these. Budget for them separately:

That last line catches people out. If the new layout moves the sink or the hob, the plumbing and gas line move with it, and that is civil work — separate trade, separate cost, and it must happen before installation, not after.
Where Varanasi homeowners overpay
Paying for a layout they will not use. An island looks excellent in a rendering and eats working space in a 10x10 kitchen. Straight, L-shaped and parallel layouts serve most Varanasi homes better and cost less.
Buying accessories at quote stage. A carousel and a pantry pull-out can be added a year later at roughly the same price. The board and hardware cannot. Order the structure right; add convenience when you have lived in the kitchen a while and know what you actually reach for.
Underspecifying the sink base. The cabinet under the sink takes more moisture than the rest of the kitchen combined. It should be the best board in the room. Many quotes use the same grade throughout and it is always the sink base that fails first.
Accepting a per-foot rate without an inclusion list. A rate is meaningless without a written scope. Which board, which brand of hardware, how many drawers, does it include the skirting, does it include installation, does it include the tall unit. Get it on paper.
What to ask before you sign
- Which board, which grade, which mill — in writing on the quote
- Which hardware brand, and is soft-close on every drawer or only some
- Is the sink base a higher grade than the rest
- What is excluded — countertop, appliances, electrical, plumbing, backsplash
- What is the warranty, and does it cover the board against swelling
- What is the timeline, and what happens if it slips
- Who does the site measurement, and when
